What is KidzEyes?

KidzEyes.com is an online survey panel where kids can tell the companies that make products and services for them how they look through kids' eyes and be rewarded for it. The KidzEyes panel is an online community of kids aged 6-12 who have agreed to participate in surveys and whose parents or guardians have given them permission to participate.

We call KidzEyes panel members "Kidz." You must be a member of the panel to participate in our surveys and other projects, and to win cash or prizes for participating.

BACK

What does KidzEyes do?

KidzEyes exists to gather kids' opinions and views so that companies can see their products, services, and trends through kids' eyes. KidzEyes only reports kids' opinions in aggregate. We'll say things like "73% of Kidz between 8 and 10 years old like this or that TV show" or "Only 25% of all Kidz have heard of such-and-such snack product." But we'll never, ever identify any individual kid, who he or she is, or anything about what he or she thinks. Ever. And the same goes for any parent or guardian who tells us how something looks through their eyes.

The business of KidzEyes is research: we really want to learn to see things through kids' eyes. We'll never, ever try to sell the Kidz anything. Same for their parents and guardians.

BACK

Are members rewarded for participating?

Every time a panel member participates in a survey, we'll give them a reward as a "Thank You." Every survey that a panel member completes earns points for that member. When KidzEyes sends a member an invitation to take a survey, we'll also announce how many points can be earned by participating.

Usually, a survey will take no more than 10 or 15 minutes to complete, and each of the Kidz taking it will receive "KidzPoints." One KidzPoint is worth 1, and participation in most surveys will be worth anywhere from several hundred to a few thousand KidzPoints; the equivalent of $2 to $20, although some may be worth more and some less.

Sometimes we'll run sweepstakes with really cool prizes. Sometimes we'll have cool games, screen savers, T-shirts and other things that we'll give away only to the Kidz on our panel.

When we invite the Kidz parents or guardians to participate in surveys, we'll have rewards for them, too.

And from time to time we might run a sweepstakes or offer other types of rewards to members of KidzEyes who refer their friends or neighbors to KidzEyes. We'll usually let you know about these special offers by email or by putting a banner on our home page.

BACK

How do Kidz redeem KidzPoints?

Kidz can access their KidzPoints accounts at https://www.kidzeyes.com/login.asp at any time. Whenever they've accumulated more than 1000 KidzPoints, Kidz can request a check for the full cash equivalent, or, if they wish, they can let their points accumulate and exchange them for one of a number of prizes that will be available from time to time.

Checks will be sent in the name of the KidzEyes panel member, in care of the parent or guardian, at the home address in KidzEyes' files. Parents or guardians can update this information at any time.

BACK

Who can join KidzEyes?

KidzEyes is open to any child between the ages of 6 and 12 who lives in the U.S. Kidz must have access to the Internet, and their parents or guardians must fill out the sign-up survey and give their permission first. Several kids from the same household may join, if they want to and their parents approve and fill out sign-up surveys for them.

Parents or guardians of kids 6-12 can also join KidzEyes. From time to time we'll invite them to participate in surveys so we can learn what parents and kids see eye-to-eye on, and what they see differently.

BACK

How does a kid join KidzEyes?

The only way a child can become a member of the KidzEyes panel is by having one of their parents or guardians sign them up either from an email invitation we send or through our web site at www.KidzEyes.com/signup.htm. KidzEyes must have a signed agreement from the parent or guardian of every child on the panel before we will collect any information from that child.  If a child attempts to sign up without parental guidance, we will only collect information in order to obtain parental consent.

On an annual basis, using email, we will ask parents and guardians to renew their agreement to have their children continue as members of the KidzEyes panel.

Once we have verified permission from a parent or guardian, we'll send an invitation to each new member to take an initial survey. Once that survey is complete, you're a member, and can expect to be invited to take other surveys, and win cash or prizes.

BACK

What topics will Kidz get asked about?

KidzEyes wants to help the companies who make products or provide services for kids and their families see the world through kids' eyes. Kidz will be asked about things like TV shows for kids, movies, Web sites, snack foods, music, clothes, sports, video games and other things that kids are interested in.

We'll have surveys about new products that haven't come out yet, and old, familiar products that Kidz may already know about. We'll ask about what Kidz like and don't like. We'll show Kidz ideas, and ask questions about what they think of them. And then we'll tell the manufacturers, programmers and Webmasters who send us their ideas how they look through our Kidz' eyes.

Because we recognize that some parents and guardians might not want their kids asked about certain topics, during the sign-up procedure we'll show them a topic list where they can tell us those things we shouldn't ask their kids about. We'll use our best efforts to never send an invitation for a survey on any of those topics to one of their kids.

BACK

How often will Kidz be asked to participate in surveys?

At least once a month, and maybe more often, Kidz will get invitations by e-mail to take part in a survey.

BACK

What are KidzEyes surveys like?

Most KidzEyes surveys are made up of simple Web pages with questions that are answered by checking boxes, pushing buttons, clicking on images, or occasionally typing numbers or a few words.

BACK

Can kids complete surveys by themselves, or will they need help?

The surveys that we'll invite Kidz to complete will be simple, and constructed so they're as easy as they can be, even for little kids, but Kidz may want an adult, older sibling or other older friend to help them out, unless they're old enough to read pretty well.

BACK

What kind of computer do kids need to participate in surveys?

Any computer with Web access and a Web browser is more than adequate for most KidzEyes surveys. We test surveys on machines running Netscape, Internet Explorer and the AOL browser, and on Macs and Windows computers.

KidzEyes also uses a proprietary survey system called netCRIMSON that allows us to develop surveys that are a lot more fun for kids because they can contain video clips, music, and a lot of other multi-media components. netCRIMSON surveys require computers with CD-ROM or DVD drives equipped with speakers for audio, and currently run on Windows computers only, not Macs.

Panel members who indicate that they have appropriate computers during the sign-up process may be invited to participate in netCRIMSON surveys. CDs for netCRIMSON surveys will be sent to the home address with have on file, in care of the child's parent or guardian.

BACK

Do Kidz need to have their own e-mail addresses to join?

No, they don't.

When a parent or guardian signs up one of their kids, we ask for an e-mail address that we'll use to send invitations for surveys, and an e-mail address for the parent or guardian so we can keep them informed about surveys that their child has participated in. If your child doesn't use e-mail, or you don't want KidzEyes to send e-mail directly to your child, just give us your own e-mail address, and we'll send all invitations to your child through you.

BACK

How do parents or guardians update records or remove their children from the panel?

Parents or guardians can make changes to their children's records or their own, or remove themselves and their children from the panel by using any of the following methods.

  • Sending email to memberinfo@kidzeyes.com
  • Visiting www.kidzeyes.com/login.asp
  • Calling 1-312-828-9200 (voice mailbox system)
  • Mailing their request to: KidzEyes Panel Administrator
    c/o C+R Research Services, Inc.
    150 N. Michigan Ave.

To make changes or remove children from the panel, parents or guardians will need to identify themselves and their child by the following these 3 steps:

  1. Provide the child's name "KidzName," the alias used for panel communications;
  2. Providing their own name;
  3. Providing their own email address.

BACK

What if I forget my child's KidzName or my own password?

If you forget your password, simply send us an email to memberinfo@kidzeyes.com. Be sure to include your name, email address and phone number which we will use to verify your identity. We'll email you the password we have on file.

How does KidzEyes protect children's safety and privacy?

KidzEyes.com is a strong supporter of children's online safety and privacy. Our complete privacy and online safety policy is available at https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.netcrimson.com/policies/KEPrivacyPolicy_011121.htm.

Most of us who are involved with KidzEyes.com are parents, and all of us care a lot about kids' welfare. We want your kids treated the way we want our own kids treated. We believe that no one should be allowed to ask kids questions online without permission from their parent or guardian.

Congress has taken the same position, and we think that's great. KidzEyes.com will do everything we can to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Act because it's the right way to do things.

KidzEyes also recommends that concerned parents and guardians go with their kids to Nickelodeon's excellent guide to safe online behavior at https://www.nick.com/blab/safety/. This is a simple, straightforward guide, written (and illustrated) in terms that even young kids will understand. What is the sign-up procedure?

A parent or guardian has to give their permission before anything else can happen. Usually an adult will hear about KidzEyes, either through an email, on a Web site or from their kids who are already members, and will come to www.KidzEyes.com.

There, they'll find a sign-up form that asks several questions about the kid or kids they'd like to sign up, about their households, and about some of the products they buy or services they use. We'll use this information to determine which Kidz to invite to participate in which surveys.

The most important parts of the sign-up process are there to make sure that the safety and privacy of kids is protected.

The very first thing KidzEyes.com needs, before any kid can participate in a survey, is proof that a parent or guardian knows and understands what we're doing, and approves. We'll ask for either a street address where we can mail an explanation of KidzEyes' procedures and policies, and a permission form, that must be returned to us with the parent's or guardian's signature (or we might ask for a credit-card number so we can verify that we're dealing with an adult, so we can accept a permission form online).

KidzEyes must have a signed agreement from the parent or guardian of every child on the panel before we collect any information from that child beyond that necessary to obtain the consent of a parent or guardian.

So, here's how it works:

  • A parent or guardian comes to KidzEyes.com, reviews our site and policies, fills out the sign-up form, and gives us some information about themselves, their household and their kids.
    • We'll need an e-mail address where we can send invitations to the Kidz involved when we want them to complete a survey.
    • We'll also ask for an e-mail address where we can send the parent or guardian copies of every survey that we've asked their kids to fill out. Sometimes, we'll invite the parents or guardians to fill out the surveys themselves (and we'll reward them when they do) but whether or not we want them to also take the survey, we'll always send an e-mail to show parents and guardians everything we send their kids.
    • We'll ask for a nickname (a "screen name"), which will be the way we'll identify individual Kidz in member communications.
  • The parent or guardian will also be asked to give us a street address where we can send the permission slip.
  • Until we get the signed permission slip back (or verify a credit-card account) the sign-up process isn't complete.
  • When everything is in place, we'll send a e-mail telling the parent or guardian, and the kid, that they're one of the Kidz, along with an invitation for the child to complete an initial survey. All the Kidz will get a KidzPoints "signing bonus" when they complete this initial survey, in addition to rewards they'll earn for completing subsequent surveys.
